The S5W3W31N Left-Hand staircase is the most compact winding staircase layout in the Trade Range. By concentrating the change of direction into the winder section, using five winder treads before the turn and one after, this design allows the staircase to reverse direction within an extremely limited footprint.

Turning to the left as you ascend, this version is supplied with a handrail and balustrade, making it suitable for open stairwells where edge protection, safety, and visual continuity are required.

Important stairwell opening & headroom guidance

With this tight winding staircase layout, the shape of the stairwell opening directly affects headroom:

• A rectangular stairwell opening can be used

• However, to achieve the recommended 2.0m headroom, an L-shaped stairwell opening is required, extending in the direction of the staircase as it winds

This additional opening length provides clearance above the winder treads, where headroom is most restricted. The stairwell opening should be considered at an early design stage to avoid issues during installation.
