The S5W3W31N Right-Hand staircase is the most compact winding staircase layout within the Trade Range and is commonly referred to as a kite winding staircase due to the shape and progression of the winder treads through the turn.

Using five winder treads before the turn and one after, this configuration concentrates the change of direction into the winder section itself, allowing the staircase to reverse direction within an extremely limited footprint. This makes it ideal for challenging layouts where space is severely restricted and a standard winder or landing staircase will not fit.

Turning to the right as you ascend, this version is supplied with handrail and balustrade, providing a complete solution for open stairwells where safety, edge protection, and visual continuity are required.

Important stairwell opening & headroom guidance

With this tight kite winding staircase layout, the shape of the stairwell opening has a direct impact on headroom:

• A rectangular stairwell opening can be used

• However, to achieve the recommended 2.0m headroom, an L-shaped stairwell opening is required, extending in the direction of the staircase as it winds

The L-shaped opening provides additional clearance above the winder treads, where headroom is most restricted. This should be allowed for at the design stage to avoid issues during installation.
